As we plan our schedule for 2017, we take one more look back at our final event for 2016, the Yacht Club’s Awards Party held last December 10th at which four special awards were given out. First, Hank Jelinek received the Ed Syracuse Sportsmanship award, because even though he had sold his Lightning Tabasco to Joe Fleming, Hank came down to the Yacht Club most Sundays and crewed for whoever needed a crew.

Angela Hopkins was awarded the Crew of the Year because she cheerfully came down to crew for Constance Gill on her Snipe most weekends, but if Constance was not taking out her Snipe, Angela and Constance would crew for various Lightnings that needed a hand.

Joe Fleming received the Most Improved Skipper award for his fine sailing of Tabasco throughout the entire sailing season. Perry Anderson won the John Myers Service Award for helping out just about everywhere, including coordinating the Junior Sailing Program, collecting our dues and paying our bills as Treasurer, working with Walt at AAA on dock repairs, preparing for the 4th of July Parade, installing the bubblers and working on many other needed jobs at the Yacht Club.

John Miller presented outgoing Commodore Rich Miner and Vice Commodore Gail Miner with a picture of them racing their Lightning Hawkeye on their way to winning the LMYC’s 2016 Commodore’s Cup Regatta on September 4th. This was the same picture that appeared on page 37 of the December Papoose, which happened to arrive on the very day of the Awards Party.
