March 2011 Papoose Article

Last month's article gave you a look into our past. Hopefully this was of interest to our present LMYC members and to those LMCC members who have been thinking of joining our club. Although we have a rich history on Lake Mohawk, we have also changed with the times. Over the last decade, we have become more family oriented than ever, without compromising our focus on racing. Consequently, we are able to provide something for everyone when it comes to sailing.

We offer racing, every Sunday from May through October, for our always active Snipe and Lightning fleets. We also have a Sunfish fleet that has room to grow and some Laser sailors who would welcome the opportunity to rebuild that fleet. There is Wednesday night sailing and we hold three, open regattas in which any LMCC member with a sailboat of any kind can compete. Our Sailing School offers organized group lessons for junior sailors under the supervision of a certified instructor and adult instruction is also available. Socially, we have numerous scheduled events plus impromptu gatherings.

Looking into the future, the following is a tentative schedule of some of our planned events for 2011:

· April 15th Prep Signal Party

· April 16th Clean Up Day (rain date 17th)

· May 7th Cinco de Mayo and Mast Raising

· May 29th Gabor Cup Regatta and Jimmy Buffet Party

· July 2nd Independence Day Family Picnic

· July 3rd Marine Base Regatta

· July 23rd Mutiny Regatta

· August 13th Jack Robertson Cruising Day

· Sept 4th Commodore’s Cup Regatta and party

· Oct 15th Finish Line Party (alternate date Oct. 22nd)

· Nov 20th Awards Brunch
