June 2012 Papoose Article

Post date: May 15, 2012 1:32:25 PM

The Prep Signal Party on April 21, held in the Mohawk Room of the LMCC, was a great success with a high turnout of 45 sailors, crew, children and guests. There was an abundance of food for all to enjoy as we socialized and danced to the music provided by our in-house DJ, Mark Marussich. Thanks to all who made the event possible and to those who came to the party.

On April 28, Rear Commodore Hank Jelinek commanded a work force comprised of Perry Anderson, Chuck Chute, Ed Snook, Ian Odridge, Joe Gomez, Dave Newton, Ken Potts, Alex Fox, and Josh Oldridge for the much needed replacement of the roof on our buoy room. We even received some neighborly, professional assistance from Randy of RK Roofing who paid us an unexpected and most welcome visit. The photo with this article taken by Alex Fox shows the work in progress--and the finished job looks terrific.

On May 5 we turned our efforts to preparing for sailing with mast raising. After all that work we were ready for another social event—our Cinco de Mayo Party. Racing began on May 20, 2012 and will continue every Sunday into October. We are hoping for fair weather and good wind. Members are also asked to check the web-site or the bulletin board at the buoy room for Race Official assignments. Our first regatta, open to all LMCC members with a sailboat of any kind, will be the Gabor Cup on June 10 followed by another of our super socials, the Makani (Hawaiian for wind) Party.

This is the last call for our Junior Sailing school. Our head instructor team of Brad Newton and Matt Newton will be returning for a second year. Classes will run for 5 weeks, beginning Monday July 2, 2012 (no classes on July 4) through Friday August 3, 2012. Subject to enrollment, we are planning the following classes:
