Our masts are up and the Lake Mohawk Yacht Club is in full swing for 2019. Brent Cherry was transferred by his work so he and his family have moved away. Fortunately, Karl and Susan Hauck were ready, able and willing to try their hands at sailing a Lightning and are the new owners of Brent’s boat. We welcome them to our Lightning Fleet, one of the original fleets in the 81 year old International Lighting Class Association.

On June 16 we held our annual Gabor Cup Regatta. This was our first, open regatta of the year. All members of the LMCC, with sailboats of any kind, are welcome to join us in these open events. Scoring is handicapped so, a novice with a non-class boat has a chance of winning.

Although run by our Lightning Fleet, the Gabor Cup Regatta is named after Charles Gabor, the 1938 Snipe Class World Champion whose home port was the Lake Mohawk Yacht Club. Following the Gabor Cup Regatta was a party, Jimmy Buffett goes Hawaiian, with great food and music.

Our next, open regatta is the Marine Base regatta and will be held on July 7. Also, skippers are reminded to check the race schedule for their assigned dates aw race official. Assignments for the month are as follows:

Jul 07 M. Marussich Marine Base Regatta (Snipe Fleet)

Jul 14 T. Mackey

Jul 21 C. Gill

Jul 28 K. Hauck

Aug 04 C. Gill

Remember, the LMYC is open to any LMCC members who are interested in sailing. We truly enjoy a great history and our parties are loads of fun—so, plan to join us!
