Racing began on May 22 with a new twist for our club. We are now starting all fleets simultaneously in timed races and scoring the various classes pursuant to the Portsmouth Handicap Ratings (PHR). Individual fleets can still keep score within their respective classes. However, overall results for the timed races will also be recorded. The objective is to assure any sailor a chance to compete on any given Sunday.

On May 22, Perry and Margaret Anderson were our race officials. Rich Miner and Joe Fleming raced Lightnings and Mike Kelly raced a Zuma in a 5 to 7 mph wind out of the north. Rich took two firsts followed by Joe and then Mike. The timed results remain to be computed. The following weekend brought the Miner and Anderson Lightnings to the course joined by Constance Gill in her Snipe and Mark Marussich sailing a Sunfish. Howard Gooblar and Don Okner were the race officials. Conditions were perfect with an 8 mph wind out of the south. Once again Rich took two firsts followed by Perry and then Constance who sailed a great second race. The timed results will be interesting. Mark was a DNF.

Our first regatta, the Gabor Cup Regatta and the Makani Party were scheduled for June 5 but were postponed until June 12 due to inclement weather. Our annual Family Barbecue will be on July 4th to coincide with the LMCC fireworks; and, our second regatta, open to any LMCC member with a sailboat of any kind, will be the Marine Base Regatta on July 10.
