July 2015 Papoose Article

Post date: Jun 8, 2015 6:38:53 PM

On May 17 sailors gathered and readied their boats but were met with light air that precluded racing. However, the May 24 proved to be more accommodating and three Lightnings competed in two races in which Rich Miner too two firsts followed by Perry Anderson in both races and our newest skipper, Peter Breiling, third. Peter is sailing Tattoo, previously owned by Chuck Chute who now is concentrating his efforts on his establishment, Black Rock Fine Wine and Craft Beer in Idaho Falls. We wish Peter the best with his “new” boat and Chuck with his new venture.

Don Okner crewed for Peter on May 24 because Don's boat was in “dry dock” with a jib halyard lost in the mast. Fortunately, due to the efforts and Perry Anderson and Don, the jib halyard was retrieved in time for racing on May 31. But alas, a rain storm followed by calm air once again caused a cancellation of racing.

The LMYC was homeport for the 1938 World Champion Snipe skipper, Charles Gabor, in whose memory we still hold our annual Gabor Cup Regatta. This year, June 7 was the date for the regatta followed by the Hawaiian Tiki Makani Party. More about that in next month's article as this article went to press before the regatta and party.
