The Gabor Cup Regatta, held on May 25th was a terrific event, especially because of the party that followed. The wind was light and variable but we had enough air to complete two races. Five Lightnings, three Snipes, one Sunfish and a boat skippered by Joe Martin from Beach Three competed for trophies. After the wake settled and the results were computed, Jeff Urbanski in his Snipe took first place followed by a Lightning sailed by Perry Anderson and Rich Miner in another Lightning taking third.

The “Jimmy Buffet” party after the race was a real success. There were fish tacos, boiled shrimp, cheeseburgers in paradise, margaritas and Mexican beer all served at our club that was decorated with hints of island grass and palm trees. Thanks to John and Margie Incantalupo, and all others who helped, in running a great race and social event.

On June 1st regular racing resumed in winds that built to over 15 knots so only one race was held with Perry Anderson still holding first place position in the Lightning Fleet for the Spring Series. However, the tides changed the following week when, on June 8th, in a steady and strong wind out of the southwest, Chuck Chute captured two firsts. Three Snipes also raced on that day.

Remember, our next open regatta is the Marine Base Regatta on July 6th with registration starting at 12:00 noon and the first gun at 1:00 p.m. Our regattas are handicapped events open to all LMCC members with a sailboat of any kind. We award trophies for the first three positions. Come down and race with us!
