Tradition! A word that captivates much of what the LMYC is about. We proudly claim title to being the longest, organized activity on Lake Mohawk since its inception. Take the following quiz and you will see for yourself:

  1. What was the name of the first sailing club on Lake Mohawk?
  2. When was it formed?
  3. What number did Robert T. Crane have on his mainsail? Hint--it was in 1933.
  4. When was our Snipe Fleet first chartered by the Snipe Class International Racing Association (SCIRA)?
  5. Our Snipe Fleet has had two SCIRA numbers. What are they?
  6. When was the LMYC formed?
  7. When was the LMYC incorporated?
  8. When was the first New Jersey State Snipe Championship held at Lake Mohawk?
  9. Name the 1938 World Champion Snipe skipper whose home port was the LMYC?
  10. When was the Lightning class boat “born”?
  11. Who designed the Lightning class boat?
  12. The International Lightning Class Association (ILCA) has hundreds of fleets, worldwide. What is our Lightning Fleet number?

For the answers, just go to our website, www.lakemohawksailing.org, and look at the February, 2009 Papoose article.

The sport of sailing and the LMYC have been integral to Lake Mohawk since its inception. Just ask any LMYC member, such as Cathy Chute at her Lake Mohawk Flower shop, and you will hear about all that we offer for serious racers, recreational sailors, juniors and social members. We hope that you will consider joining the LMYC and help to maintain the tradition of organized sailing as part of the present and the future on our beautiful lake.

And, if you cannot sail, that’s no excuse. We offer lessons if you want to learn. Just call us at (973)512-8867, email us at sail@lakemohawksailing.org or write to PO Box 29, Sparta, NJ 07871 for more information.

Until next month, smooth sailing and God bless America!
