December 2012 Papoose Article

Post date: Nov 12, 2012 12:38:10 PM

Although our racing for 2012 officially ended on Oct. 21, our last race day was actually Oct. 14, a day with a strong southwest wind in which three Lightnings competed while Don Okner and Ed Snook, assisted by Constance Gill, ran the races. Rich Miner was first in both races, Chuck Chute took two seconds and Hank Jelinek came in third. Thus, the Fall series for the Lightnings ended with Rich Miner in first place, Perry Anderson second, Don Okner third and Chuck Chute in fourth place. Overall results for the Lightinings and the Snipes will be announced at the Awards Party scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1 and the results will appear in the January, 2013 Papoose.

On Oct. 27, we had our Finish Line Party and Annual Meeting at the LMCC. Everyone who attended brought great dishes to share and, after voting in our new officers, fleet captains and trustees for 2013, Alex Fernandez Fox treated us to some terrific entertainment. Alex is a talented, professional musician, composer and singer. Do yourself a favor and check out his website, www.delzorro.com or better yet, buy his album, “Uno.” You will not be disappointed.

Our officers, fleet captains and directors for 2013 are as follows:

ñ Officers: Commodore Chuck Chute; Vice Commodore Perry Anderson; Rear Commodore Hank Jelinek; Treasurer Gail Miner; Secretary Birgit Bogler

ñ Fleet Captains: Lightning Rich Miner; Snipe John Marx; Laser/Sunfish John Miller

ñ Trustees: Alex Fox, Ed Snook, Dave Newton, Consance Gill, Ken Potts, Ian Oldridge

The LMYC congratulates Josh Oldridge who graduated from basic training in the U.S. Navy in October. The photo with this article was taken by Josh's proud parents, Jan and Ian who are active and valued LMYC members. Josh started sailing in our junior program, he went on to become an assistant instructor in the program and he crewed for yours truly on Sushi while in high school. He is now stationed in Charleston where he is receiving advanced training. We thank Josh for his patriotic service.

Remember, 2013 is just around the corner. So we extend an invitation to all LMCC members to join our club so you can sail and socialize with us. You can visit us on the web at www.lakemohawksailing.org. For more information about membership in the LMYC or, if you want to learn to sail, just call our Vice Commodore, Gail Miner at (973)729-5283, email us at our lakemohawksailing@gmail.com or write to PO Box 29, Sparta, NJ 07871.

Until next month, smooth sailing and God bless America!

Don Okner
