December 2023 Papoose Article

Season Greetings from the Lake Mohawk Yacht Club! The sailboats are put away for the season and we are already thinking about next year. At the time of this article, we have just had our annual meeting and are pleased to see all the new faces that have stepped up to help run the Yacht Club. Thank you all, the Yacht Club can’t run without you.

We are pleased to announce that we are actively organizing the Junior Sailing program for the summer of 2024. Please stay tuned for further announcements and information.

The three active sailing fleets that race on Sundays during the summer are Lightnings, Snipes and Sunfish. I found an old photograph of the Snipe fleet racing on Lake Mohawk in the 1930’s. One of our summer sailing events is called the Gabor Cup. Charlie Gabor was the 1938 Snipe World Champion! More can be found on the snipe.org website. As you can see there is some history and prestige to the Yacht Club.

Lastly, I wanted to share a picture of my wife Julie and son Joseph standing in front of a sailboat planted in one of our member’s back yards decorated up for Christmas. The owner will remain nameless to protect the innocent. The club likes their sailing but also likes to have fun too.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
