The LMYC is in full swing. The Junior Sailing School is underway and on June 3, 2018 we had our first open event open to all LMCC members, the Gabor Cup Regatta. John Miller served as race official for the event in which four Lightnings competed in two races. In the first race, Rich Miner came in first, followed by Brent Cherry, Perry Anderson and Joe Fleming. The results for the second race were the same. Therefore, Rich Miner won the event with Brent Cherry taking second place and Perry Anderson in third place.

On June 24, 2018, the air was light but there was enough wind to move some boats. Three Lightnings raced in the Olympic course that was set by the race official for the day, Hank Jelinek. Fleet Champion Rich Miner ably defenses his position, taking first place in the two races that were held. Perry Anderson, in hot pursuit, took two seconds and Brent Cherry came in third in both races.

Our annual, Independence Day Family Picnic was held on July 3, 2018 and was a great success, attended by many members and guests that included some former members such as Dave and Bambi Newton. The grill was capably manned by Ian Oldridge and everyone contributed side dishes and desserts. Margaret Anderson, who we thank for organizing the event, commented: “The Fireworks Celebration was a sparkling success! I appreciate all the help, the delicious desserts and salads, the loan of tents, tables, children’s games and boom box which made for a happy time. Thank you!!! Margaret.”

Race official duty is posted at the club and on our web site. LMYC members are asked to check and note their assignments for race official duty. Race officials for August, 2018 are as follows:

August 5: Rich Miner

August 12: Brent Cherry

August 19: Tim Mackey

August 26: Constance Gill

September 2: John Miller (Commodore’s Cup Regatta)

Our last open regatta will be the Commodore’s Cup on September 2, 2018. Any LMCC member with a sailboat of any kind is invited to attend. Registration is at 12:00 noon and the first horn will be sounded at 1:00 pm. Plans to join us and to get in on the fun!

Remember, the LMYC is open to any LMCC members who are interested in sailing. Therefore, plan to join us. For more information, you can visit us on the web at www.lakemohawksailing.org. Also, you can email us at lakemohawksailing@gmail.com, or write us in care of PO Box 29, Sparta, NJ.
