On June 9, Tim and Chris Mackey match raced Snipes in shifty air. Tim won race one but, as the boats headed back to the starting line for the second race, they were both hit by an unexpected gust that caused both boats to go over like dominoes. The skippers managed to right their crafts only to see Tim go over again as he was re-entering his boat.

As reported last month, on June 16 we held our annual Gabor Cup Regatta, however, results were not available. Now we have the results, which as follows. Six bots competed, including four Lightnings and two Snipes. Rich Miner and crew took first place in a Lightning followed by Perry Anderson and crew, also in a Lightning. Tim and Chris Mackey raced Snipes and tied for third place with Tim edging out Chris on total, corrected time.

June 23 brought four boats, two Lightnings and two Snipes, to the course. The prevailing wind was out of the north and was sufficient to allow for two races. Perry Anderson took first place in race one in the Lightnings and Don Okner took first pace in the second race, much to the delight of his crew, son Marty and grandson Lukas. The Mackey’s raced Snipes with Tim taking two firsts.

Our annual, Independence Day family picnic was held on Jully 3 and was a great success. As always, the food and company was terrific and the evening was capped off with the LMCC firework display that were able to enjoy from our docks.

The Marine Base regatta was held on July 7. Six boats, four Lightnings and two Snipes, competed. The regatta consisted of one, looooong light air race. Rich Miner and crew led the way for the entire race in a Lightning and took first place, followed by Perry Anderson and crew, also in a Lightning, in second place and Joe Fleming and crew taking third in a Lightning. Tim and Chris Mackey came fourth and fifth, respectively, in Snipes.

Skippers are reminded to check the race schedule for their assigned dates as race official. Assignments for August are as follows:

Aug 04 C. Gill

Aug 11 P. Anderson

Aug 18 T. Mackey

Aug 25 R. Miner

Sep 01 J. Miller Commodore's Cup
