Seven sailboats from four different classes, Lighting, Snipe, Laser and Sunfish, participated in Lake Mohawk Yacht Club’s Annual Gabor Cup Regatta on June 15th. The winds were from the northwest and fairly good, except at each start, when the winds went very light. John Marx won the first race in his Snipe. Perry Anderson, with crew Margaret Anderson and Shirley Miller, came in second and Rich Miner was third. In the second race Rich Miner, with crew Gail Miner and Brad Newton, was first, even beating the Snipe handicap. Perry finished second, but John Marx was placed second, due to the Snipe handicap.

The very close final results, calculated by Race Committee John Miller, put John Marx in first place for the Regatta, with Rich Miner in second and Perry Anderson in third. There were no races on June 22 due to lack of wind. However, the competition picked up again on June 29th with good winds out of the south. Rich Miner finished first in both Lightning races, helped out by good spinnaker work in both races and a good start in the second race. Perry Anderson came in second in both races and Chuck Chute was third in both. John Marx won the only Snipe race, as Jeff Urbanski flipped his Snipe.

Thanks go to Beth Jelinek for all the work she did on our very successful Father’s Day party, the Happy Pappy. The food was great and the weather was delightful. Also, Matt Gomez, the Assistant Head Instructor for our Junior Sailing Program, was the top student in the Small Boat Instructor Level 1 Certification Course at Avalon Yacht Club in June. Additionally, our Head Instructor, Haley Chute, successfully completed the Small Boat Instructor Level 2 Certification Course at Chatham Yacht Club in June. We congratulate them both for attaining these prestigious certifications from the U. S. Sailing Association.

The LMYC is also pleased to welcome aboard two more family members, James and Julia Kelly. We hope that they will enjoy all that we have to offer. On July 4, we held our annual Independence Day Party and on July 6 the Marine Base Regatta. Stand by for more to come about of those events in next month's Papoose.
