April 2016 Papoose Article

Post date: Mar 12, 2016 5:08:45 PM

Ahoy sailors! We are about to shove off for 2016 and ask that all hands be on deck for our Annual Cleanup on April 30th beginning at 9:00am. And, whether or not you can help at the cleanup, later that same day you will want to be sure to attend our first social event of the year, the Prep Signal party.

On May 14th we will gather for Mast Raising followed by the Cinco de Mayo party held right at the Yacht Club. This is a good opportunity for skippers to assist one another readying their boats for racing followed by another fun social event. Racing will begin the following week, on May 22, to avoid any conflict with the Dragon Boat Racing, which is scheduled for May 15.

Our first regatta, the Gabor Cup Regatta, will take place on June 5th. This is open to all LMCC members, with a sailboat of any kind. If you have never raced your boat, this is a good opportunity to give it a try and to celebrate afterward at our Makani [Hawaiian for wind] Party. Our annual Family Barbecue will be on July 4th to coincide with the LMCC fireworks. And, our next open regatta, Marine Base Regatta, is scheduled for July 10th.

The Lake Mohawk Yacht Club will be running Junior Sailing Classes. We will have two US Sailing certified instructors, Haley Chute and Matt Gomez, as well as Haley’s very experienced sister Hannah, teaching the classes. The Junior Sailing Classes are open to LMCC members and will run from June 27, 2016 to July 29, 2016. There will be three levels of instruction. Students must be age 10 and above.
