Charles Johnson was born in New Kent, Virginia, British America  in the early 1700s.

He is the son of John Johnson & Elizabeth Massie. He was not listed with their two baptised children in St. Peters parish.
He was born after they moved to St. Pauls parish and the records from there did not survive.

22 Nov 1745 Charles Johnson of St. Paul parish, Hanover bought 190 acres in Rawley Parish, Amelia county. John also moved there.

On 12 Jun 1725 Charles witnessed the marriage of Joseph Crew and Massey Johnson {his sister} at White Oak Swamp MM in New Kent, Virginia, British America.

He married Sarah Crew sometime after they received permission to marry on the 6th day of the 4th month of 1734 in Charles City, VA. Henrico MM. 

Meeting held as usual in Henrico County 1st day of 1 month 1733 (1734 - the prior entry was for Dec 1733)

Charles johnson and Sarah Crew published their intentions of taking each other in marriage. This meeting appoints William and Samuel Megehe to make incuire into their clearness of the young man.

At a montly meeting held as usual in Henrico County the 6th day 2nd month 1735 (1734)

Charles Johnson and Sarah Crew appearing clear from any intanglements of marriage with any other, by the report of the friends appointed to make incuire there in. Where upon they signified to this meeting their continuing their intentions of marriage as explained last month meeting. [p 216 img 224 Henrico]

This meeting apoynts John Brinford and John Crew to attend the marriage of the aforesaid couple and report to the next monthly meeting. [p 217 img 225]

He witnessed the marriage of Micajah Woodey and Cesilia Johnson on 4 Sep 1739 in Hanover, Virginia, British America.

22 Nov 1745 Charles Johnson of St. Paul parish, Hanover bought 190 acres in Rawley Parish, Amelia county between the branches of Saylor's creek and the the branches of Dawson's Creek.

At a Quarterly Meeting held at Cedar Creek as Usual the 10th of the 4th mo 1756.

Charles Johnson petitioned this meeting setting forth his poor state of health & want of corn  & to support his family &his willingness of it judged necessary that his children 6 in number might be placed apprentices amongst Friends in consideration of which this meeting appoints Ashley Johnson to do the needful in supporting him & family that they not want necessaqries of Life and make report to next Mo meeting. Likewise it’s thought convenient that two of his children be bound out,  & John Johnson Senr. & David Johnson are appointed to proved proper places for them.

At A Quarterly Meeting held at Cedar Creek in Hanover County the 10 day of the 7th month 1756.

David & John Johnson not making any report of the trust committed to them last Quly meeting on behalf of providing for the children of Charles Johnson its continued until next for their report.

Ashley Johnson Junr. Produced an account of four barrels of corn bought for Charles Johnson amounting to -------.  Thomas Pleasants is desired to advance the same for account of that meeting ordered that each mo meeting do raise the sum  20 & remit the same to the said Thomas when so raised.

At A Quarterly Meeting held at the usual place in Hanover County ye 9th day of ye 10th mo 1756.

The money ordered to be used for the use of Charles Johnson being raised is deliver to Thomas Pleasants to reimburse him the money he advanced last meeting.
