Donald Johnson was a firefighter with the Jackson Fire Department where he held the rank of driver/engineer. Upon reporting for work one morning he had a heart attack and his life could not be saved. Because of his duty death Mr. Johnson’s name is inscribed on the Michigan Fallen Heroes Memorial Monument, Stone 2, Row 15. The monument is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of County Center Drive East (north entrance) and N. Telegraph Rd., on Oakland County's complex at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Pontiac. The memorial has a website on the internet at www.michiganfallenheroes.com

He was born on Oct. 9, 1936, in Jackson, Mich., to Donald C. and Agnes (Walters) Johnson. He married Vicki S. Votzke on May 9, 1988, in Addison, and she survives. He lived his early life in Jackson and Chelsea, Mich., and then lived in the Addison area since 1995.

Don was in the National Guard. He attended high school in Jackson. He built wreckers for Jimmy's Wrecker Service in Jackson. He owned his own welding shop, worked at the University of Michigan and owned the Pot Belly Café in Addison for nine years. He enjoyed welding, horses and raising cattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, JoAnn Robinson and Betty Hughes. Full military honors were performed by the Hudson American Legion, Hannan-Colvin Post #180.
