I, John Johnson of Bedford County, do hereby make and ordain this my last will and testament. In the manner following I do lend my wife Lydia Johnson during her life the Land and plantation whereon I now live with all the personal estate I, Joseph, and at her decease for the Land to revert to my Son Thomas Johnson and his heirs forever & I have __ unto my son James Johnson the sum of one thousand dollars to be laid out in Land upon? the State of the Ohio by him for the Benefit of my son John Johnson, deceased and to be equally divided between them, then at the decision of my aforesaid wife for my personal estate and make a return to court and then giving three months Legal notice of a sale of the said estate and for the amount of sale to be divided equally between my Children to wit, Judith Ballard, Susannah Wilkerson, James, Samuel, Joseph & Thomas Johnson and Lydia Moorman and the heirs of my son John Johnson to come in as one legalese in all making eight shares & I do constitute my son Thomas Johnson and James Martin Capt? of Campbell to be my executors of this my last will and testament given under my hand & seal this 24th day of September eighteen hundred and thirteen signed in the present of Samuel Poindexter

Rhoda Moorman, daughter of Micajah C. Moorman and Susanna Chiles, was born on 15 Aug 1769 in Campbell, Virginia, British America.

She was mentioned in her father, Micajah Moorman's will when the estate was probated on 25 Nov 1806.

Item. I give unto four of my daughters to wit, Mildred Johnson, Rhoda Johnson, Susanna Johnson and Doshea Stratton fifty acres of land each out of the remainder of the tract of three hundred acres I have purchased in the State of Ohio, to be divided between them as convenient and as equal in quality as it well can, with other things furniture &c which they have already received, to them and their heirs forever.


She was living in 1809 in Clinton, Ohio, United States. With irrepressible energy Rhoda [Moorman] Johnson set out on the long journey to Ohio in 1809 with her seven children. Her certificate of membership addressed to Center Monthly Meeting of Friends, Clinton County, Ohio, dated 11th mo 11th 1809, recommends her and her children, — the name of each child given, — to the ” Christian care and oversight ” of Friends in her new home and surroundings. They were accompanied by her mother, Susannah Moorman, and her granddaughter, Molly Moorman, and other emigrants, all of whom settled in Ohio.

A large number of relatives and friends had preceded them to ” Miami,” Ohio, in the early spring of 1806, among these were her brother Charles Moorman and his family, and eight Johnson families, together with the Terrells and Butterworths.


Rhoda M. Coffin “In 1807 she disposed of her property in Virginia, and with her family and necessary effects in a two-horse wagon, she left her native state and removed to Waynesville, Warren County, Ohio. I have heard my grandmother say that she was six weeks on the road.
