The funeral of Christopher H. Johnson was held Tuesday afternoon at the Cola Hill school house in charge of Rev. J. W. Cone of the Congregational church, with interment in the Cola Hill cemetery. There was a large attendance and the service was impressive. The pall bearers were Chas. Douglass, Joe Bond, Otis Morris, Fred Stone, Frank Hughes and JohnS hrimplin.

Christopher Hampton Johnson was born near Jamestown, Green County, Ohio February 3, 1844. With his parents he moved to Wapello County, Iowa in 1855 where his father died in1868. With his mother and a younger brother and sister he came to Miami County Kansas. In 1872 he was united in marriage to Marry E. Roberts and from this union seven children were born: five daughters and two sons. Mary E. Johnson, his wife, and two children, Effie May and Charley Edward preceded him to the Great Beyond. One daughter, Mrs. Emma Weckham living in Guthrie, Okla., Mrs. Laura Houser in Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. Anna Glass in Maryville, Kan., Mrs. Goldie Stewart and Wilbur Johnson both of Burlington, Kan., and one sister, Mrs. Jane Handley living at Iola, Kan., and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, friends and relatives are left to mourn his loss.

Mr. Johnson died Monday May 21, 1923 at his home four miles south east of Burlington at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 18 days. His body was laid to rest beside his wife in Cola Hill cemetery.

He was a loyal member of the U. B. church, was patient and kind all the time of his sick ness and was fully prepared and ready for the call and urged all his children and friends to meet him in the better land.

(May 23, 1923) He was buried on 23 May 1923 at Cola Hill Cemetery in Burlington, Coffey, Kansas, United States.

My Grandfather and Father lived in Burlington, KS until he died in Nov 1918. After doing some research, he probably died of the Great Influenza Epidemic of 1918 called the Spanish Flu which actually started in KS. Another member of that family lost her husband soon after Charles died.
