OBJECTIVE
This drill is designed to teach the player the fifth and final step in heads up tackling--the Rip Drill
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
• Players learn to combine the explosive motion of opening their hips and thrusting their arms in making a tackle in an upright position with and without a dummy.

This drill can be done with a flat dummy held horizontally at waist height by two waiting players--or it can be done done without a flat dummy against air. If using a dummy, have the first player line up in front a step in front of the dummy in the Hit Position. On coach’s Rip command, the player springs forward using a double uppercut motion with arms, elbows in at the sides and propels the dummy up over his head. Repeat the drill with the dummy held vertically. Players can execute the drill against air (without a dummy) using the same double upper cut technique and finishing high with elbow in and fists up.
