Basic Play calling terminology
This drill introduces the basic play calling terminology in JDL Football.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Plays are called by designating a ball carrier by number (1, 2, 3, or 4) and the hole the player should run through. The play 32 for example, that is listed below, has the #3 back (the full back) carrying the ball through the #2 hole.
On this play the 2 back and the 4 back have jobs to do as well as shown. The 4 back runs through the 6 hole and looks to block the outside linebacker. The 2 back delays a count then runs parallel to the line of scrimmage until he is opposite the 6 hole then cuts up through the 6 hole. When running the 32 play, the 2 back always runs this pattern which is a fake of a companion play called fake 32 26 in which the 2 back gets the ball after the quarterback fakes it to the 3 back.
All Linemen block down on this play.
The quarterback "rides" the fullback then hands of the football to him. After the handoff the quarterback must fake the 26 play to the 2 back.
