Dynamic Tackling Drill
This drill is designed to give defensive players additional repetitions in positioning themselves properly to execute the heads up tackling techniques learned earlier.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Coaches look for good, low, heads up form-- emphasize wrapping the arms and accelerating through the ball carrier. DO NOT BRING THE BALL CARRIER TO THE GROUND.
SETUP
Dynamic Tackling Drill
Set up 2 cones - 5 yards apart, and place 3 flat dummies in between the cones as shown:
EXECUTION
Ball carrier and tackler start out 10 yards apart. The ball carrier sprints toward the middle dummy then cuts to the left or right and runs to the inside of the cone on that side.
The tackler mirrors the ball carrier and when the ball carrier makes his cut to one side or the other the tackler attacks him and makes a form tackle. DO NOT BRING THE BALL CARRIER TO THE GROUND.
