Advanced Unions 004- Pillows

Hello everyone! This lesson may seem short and ridiculous but it is a good warm up. Soon me and Electiz will start teaching the House Design class so I thought I may share my little recipe for making unioned pillows for your beds, couches, or anything else.

First I start with a basic brick or course (dimensions for THIS pillow's brick is 2.6, 3.8, 6.8). Make it taller if you want a square pillow.

I will place a few negative parts to make a round shape around one side of the brick. The rotations are done with no snap. Use the transform tool if you want.

Now take your negative parts, duplicate them, and rotate them onto the other side of the brick. Like last lesson with the arch shape we can see the shape the negative parts will cut out.

If you would like to keep going we can, but this is a good looking pillow shape so far. Nice and fluffy and thick, but we can still keep going.

Take 2 negative parts and place them in your pillow like so. These bricks have a 5 degree rotation.

Do the same to the other side and you have yourself a nice pillow. Now sadly this method gets us very small skinny pillows, if you want it fluffy like before but still keeping the same shape, make bigger rotations during step number one so the pillow starts out much thicker. What you may even want to do is make a curve instead of a point. This way the pillow will look much more realistic.

You may be asking yourself why I make so many errors in my work in this class. The truth is I don't want you all to share my personal techniques. I want you to explore the possibilities of unions and the many ways to create them so everybody has their own signature design. Be as original as you can with your work and make a different kind of pillow every day. This way you can find your true style.
