Building Lesson 007: Building A Tree

Hello everyone! Domswolf here with our new building lesson. Today we will talk about how to build a detailed looking tree. I have seen many roblox trees, and today we will learn how to make something like this.

Basic Tree: Now this is a complicated tree at first glance but it does not take much to learn to be able to do something like this. It’s all a matter of rotation, size, and color, things we learned about when you were all still small members in Imagination Tech.

Let’s start with our first brick (you can use cylinders if you want, this is just my style of trees) and give it a nice wood texture. We will add roots and stuff later, but for now, let’s just focus on going upwards. Now as we go up, it will branch off into sections and then sections within sections and so on. Now try to make a variety of rotation on x, y, and z axis. You want your tree to be amazing looking at multiple angles.

So now as you can see we have made the tree branch into 4 parts as it goes up. Now remember that as we make more split-offs, the bricks must decrease in size like a real tree. If you are having trouble getting ideas, just look outside your front yard or look at google images for ideas. So let’s add smaller branches on those branches.

Now add smaller branches on those smaller branches, remember to use a variety of rotations. No repetition is wanted here now

Keep going however many branch splits you want. I usually only do about 2-4 as seen from the picture.

Now we are ready to add leaves. You can do it however you want, but I personally think grass looks best for tree leaves. Now we can go crazy by adding hundreds of leaves, but a good way to do it is just to have rotated blocks to simulate many leaves in one place. I will start by doing my first branches, then the branches within those branches and so on. Once again, make the leave bunches smaller as you go. Also be sure to use different rotations so there isn’t repetition

So since we want more variation in this tree, we will make color variation. If we have green for example, find a color green that is similar to the one you are using. Then, pick about 30-40% of the leaves at random and switch them all to that color. Again, this is just the way I do it, do it the way you want to.

Now let’s add a few finishing touches, like some roots that go into the ground.

Of course in some trees, what you could do is make unioned leave clumps, but we will get to that in our Advanced Unions lesson.

Well there you have it, your first detailed tree. Next lesson we will discuss how to make more plants from scratch like house plants, grass, and flowers.
