The Ride
We offer a new brevet route to the randonneur community in Bangalore – the first to feature a hill climb.
Riders start from the IISc campus on Friday night, rush through the mostly downhill NH 7 towards Krishnagiri aiming to make the most of the cold night, and continue past Krishnagiri to reach the first control at Karimangalam. Then they turn back to Krishnagiri and take NH 46 towards Vaniyambadi, getting off the highway a few km before Vaniyambadi to reach the base of Yelagiri hills, passing through village roads. Then follows the climb to the top - grueling 11 km, with 14 hairpin bends; each bend is labeled with the name of a Tamil poet. The town at the top with its refreshing air and scenic landscapes is popular among tourists as a place to relax on the weekend. Our riders, however, will not have much time to relax, and will start the return leg of the ride. This section features empty roads till reaching Kolar through Kuppam and Bethamangala. The last stretch from Kolar to Bangalore is through NH 4.
This is an ACP-sanctioned brevet ride, and must be completely self-supported. The ride must be finished within 27 hours, but note that it is not a competitive ride.

Rules and Regulations

Lights and reflective jackets are compulsory for this brevet. You will not be allowed to start without them. This brevet involves extensive night riding, make sure to have extra batteries, and it is recommended to have spare lights. Riders without lights or reflective jacket in the dark will be disqualified.
The rider must return his/her brevet card to the organizers at the end of the brevet for their ride to be homologated. Riders completing the brevet successfully can opt for a medal from ACP, for which a separate medal fee of INR 375 must be paid. Cards and medals will be returned after a few months.
Registration Information
Online registration, and advance payment is compulsory. Register online on http://brevetmgr.appspot.com/brevet/july2013-yelagiri/ , and after completing payment, remember to come back and enter payment details.
Registration will close on Tuesday 2 July 2013.
Registrations are charged a fee of INR 200/.
Payment Information: Payment details shall mailed to those who register online. Please note that payment is via online transfer to a bank account, and as this might take a few days to happen, do register early enough for you to be able to make the payment. Online registrations will close automatically on Tuesday 2 July 2013, 6 pm.

Route
Surface: The route is such that most riders will be on four-laned highways with divider in the dark hours - NH 7 and NH 46 in the beginning (Friday night to Saturday morning), and NH 4 in the end (Saturday night). The other sections are paved roads with good to moderate surface.
Traffic: Expect heavy traffic even at night on the highways NH 7, NH 46, and NH 4. Traffic will be rare in other parts of the route.
