Most of us studied science in junior high school, and unless one continued to university to study biology and in related discipline, most people probably will find it difficult to understand what is all this fuss about.
The Creationists/Intelligent Design proponents have done a lot of public media promotions, and quite a number of people we encounter, though being rational, actually believed that:
Evolution theory is still in doubt within the scientific community, that there are not enough evidence to support it, or that it is not even a fact
That introducing "alternative explanations" help student to better learn science and there is no reason to reject intelligent design/creationism
Creationists/Intelligent Design proponents owe their "success" to a ill-informed public, and their creation of mind-traps and loads of seemingly convincing "evidence" which created doubts on evolution, and then they use their propaganda to mislead people that Intelligent Design is a legitimate science.
