HKMIPS Foreword 2016

Foreword

The development of traditional Chinese painting so far, from the literati in study rooms to exhibition halls, art galleries, museums, and even out of the vast space, in front of contemporary art and international community, produced a huge change.

The development of this revolutionary cultural renaissance is due to the implementation of the “Modernization of Chinese Painting Movement” by Liu Kuo Sung of Taiwan and Lui Shou Kwan of Hong Kong in early 1960s. And this has led to Chinese Ink Painting a tremendous impact thereafter.

A number of ink painting artists in Hong Kong have developed their individual style in the Movement for the half century. Their contribution in art both for Hong Kong and the world is certain. In response to this opportunity, the Hong Kong Modern Ink Painting Society was established in 1977 and has been in existence for more than 39 years; despite of numerous difficulties, the number of members keeps in around 15. As the millennium came by, we stretched our hands outward to talented and like-minded persons, making our team grow stronger, and the number of our members doubled. Ink events were created one after another, and our effort was getting attention of the art circles.

In addition to dissemination of new ink, exchange exhibitions of domestic and foreign artworks, our annual exhibitions, are the creative performance table of the artists of the Hong Kong Modern Ink Painting Society. And it is also a great event longing for by many Hong Kong fellows and ink lovers. We will, as always, work hard in pushing Hong Kong’s cultural wheels forward.
