Pretolstojan Period

Part of the Mercurial Geologic Timescale

No Predecessor - Pretolstojan Period - Tolstojan Period

The Pretolstojan Period is the first period of the Mercurial Geologic Timescale. Beginning with a time of accretion, the Pretolstojan is characterized by the formation of the planet and its early history, including the Late Heavy Bombardment that terrorized the inner solar system, which would not completely come to an end until the Calorian. During the Pretolstojan, the planet's crust, mantle, and core formed. While life may have formed on both Earth and Mars, among other bodies, during this time, Mercury's proximity to the sun makes it an unlikely candidate to have ever harbored life.

The Pretolstojan is not further subdivided into epochs.
