Google Sites

Creating a web-site used to be left to the professionals, with their complex programs integrating text and pictures and hyperlinks, making static sites dynamic, uploading them to servers, and the like. These days there are many programs, and plenty of them for free, which you can use to create websites with all the above-mentioned functionality. All you need is webspace to upload them to.

But even more recently, Google has launched a new tool called Google Sites. With your Google Account, you can create a website in an hour with a Homepage, as many pages as you need, include pictures and videos, upload documents, the navigation bar is automatically generated, the colour scheme can be chosen from many templates. And in a single click (or three), you're published. You can invite other people to work on the site with you, and you can limit who can see it.

And this is the tip of the iceberg – there are many more features. As you become familiar with its options and procedures, the value Google Sites has as a vehicle for students to create and present their work collaboratively will emerge.
