A Ten-step Introduction to Concordancing through the Collins Cobuild Corpus Concordance Sampler

Some time around 2002 I created this site, which I updated slightly in 2005. It's aim is to introduce the tool and some important linguistic concepts that allow the user to capitalise on the findings that are most easily explored using the Sampler.

It is a ten session tutorial teaching some aspects of using concordancers and collocations in language study. The Collins Cobuild Corpus Sampler is a demo version which allows you to try it out before subscribing to the full version of Cobuild's mighty site. Using the query skills taught in my Introduction site, a great deal of benefit can be derived from this program.

The Collins Cobuild Sampler was closed. The good news however, is SKELL, which does similar things but with a bigger, more recent corpus and some added functionality.
