Teaching on the Right Side of the Brain

The title of this page derives from an art book called Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain whose website is here, and it contains valuable info about the hemispheres. There is a lot of information presented on the Left Brain Right Brain Test webpage, tho it does not have an overly educational face. This picture is also on that site, tho it may not be its original source any more than my page here.Stop PressAt a teacher training workshop in Austria (October 2011) Dr Manuela Macedonia, explained to me that education's interest in the left-right brain division, as depicted here, was sparked by a Nobel prize that Roger Sperry won in 1981. However, with the development of much more sophisticated brain scanning devices and other research tools, the division of the brain in this way has been shown to be invalid. We are still free to see it as a metaphor, but we can no longer exploit the "university tests prove ..." defence.

Iain Gilchrist outline the latest research in an excellent video hosted on TED talks. It is called The Divided Brain. Highly recommended.
