2012 FCL Week 13

These are the links for the Saturday XI report & scorecard; This one is for Sunday 2s report& scorecard

So far we have nothing for Sunday 1s except the scorecard.

Sorry, Just is on holiday and I never got round to the report.

Bloody useless kids these days; no sense of responsibility. Here's a brief synopsis for the sake of posterity:

On Saturday an astonishing & dramatic 2 wicket victory was achieved against Churchways. Churchways were put in first & devastated by the largely accurate combined cowboys bowling attack & some excellent fielding skills. Joe Budge struggled for rhythm with the ball & started & finished the innings, taking 1 for 35 off 5.2 with 9 bowling extras, but executed an unassisted run out & although not getting a bat, accumulated 41.33 points for the day. Garnier was by contrast a model of controlled precision & his full 8 overs included 3 maidens & 2 wickets for 19; he also bagged 4 winning run points & a not out bonus to bring him a sizeable 91 points for the weekend. If that seems economical then Tim T1's bowling analysis is a joke; 8 overs, 4 maidens, 3 wickets for 5 runs left him with 112 for the day's play including 3 run points for batting. Kahlu had a full & varied approach with the ball, with 8 overs going for 32, including one maiden & 2 wickets; & with the bat a 5 ball 5 & out, totalling 63 altogether. Iggy bowled a tight 3 overs for 6 runs, took 2 apparently stunning slip catches, then got an apparently aberrant LBW 3rd ball for a duck, making 34 points in total, but this was only his 1st of 2 games for the weekend. Evan began his part with an economical spell of 7 overs for 14 runs including a wicket & 4 maidens before his unbeaten innings of 36 run points brought the team home, landing him the MoM & 142 points overall. Ben P took a catch, which went part way to offsetting his golden duck penalty & made 15 positive points with the win bonus. Dave Toole also bagged a catch & 18 run points for a tally of 58 & Grove's 3 runs came off a record 54 balls, to add to a catch in the field & a total of 43. The duck tally for this game was quite impressive; in addition to Ben P's golden & Iggy's 3 baller, Ang managed a 7 baller (plus a catch to total the 25 points for a win in his 1st of 2 games) & Gretch got a 2 baller, plus a stumping, bringing him 30 for the game.

On Sunday the 1sts started well but were ultimately found wanting against a rejuvenated Bangladeshis outfit. We won the toss & decided to bat first & make an insurmountable target. Things began well with a solid 50 run opening stand before Bolts fell bowled for 17 run points & a total of 27 for the game. Mark came in & got 11 (& wouldn't be the last to do so) before falling at 102; he later got a nice slip catch, but bowled 2 overs for 19 & made 25 overall. Matt D came in & got 11, & he later bowled 5 overs for 40 runs, making a grand total of 1 point. Meanwhile Justin had been timing the ball nicely for 62 run points & decided to try to force the issue after drinks & got caught with 126 on the board; he later kept wicket & had to do a fair bit of wide chasing, which together brought a MoM award & 122 for the match. Matt C got a run, but that was pretty much it & he finished the game with 11 points. Then RT2 came to the wicket & did some impressive running with Iggy, who came in & got 11 before his bowling spell brought the only wicket of their innings in a spell of 4 overs for 17 runs, by far our most economical spell of the game, earning 47 points, so 81 for both games combined. RT2 got us to 207 & made 50 off 32 balls, but when he bowled it was 5.5 overs for 52 runs, so he finished the day on 51.33 points. Andy Chester made a smart 15 at a run a ball, & assisted Duncan with running himself out first ball in a brief comedic interlude. Andy C was bowled with the last ball of the innings but was spared bowling duties & finished the day with 25 points, but things only got worse for Duncan, as his 5 overs were fruitless for a relatively not quite so expensive 26 runs, bringing him -21 from the game. Zabeullah played a short & classically Afghan cameo, scoring 4 off his first ball & being bowled on his second; his bowling was also somewhat archetypal & when he found his accuracy becoming unreliable he decided to bowl a bit quicker, so his 4 overs went for a massive 50 runs (including an undisclosed number of bowling extras), so his tally for the day was -20, & he is only spared from the shameful 3 by the worse performances of others. Deano made a shrewd 3 not out, but then got a bowl & his 2 overs went for 19, leaving him with 12 for the day altogether. Having made 224 we felt we hadn't quite made enough but that it should be defendable. Duncan's tea was nice. The target made them feel they had to take a few risks early on with the bat, so they did so & that was that. All bowlers took a fair bit of stick & they made 203 before Iggy got one of the openers to mistime skywards to Wilko for 84. The other dude made a ton & they got home in just under 28 overs; it was a sorry outcome from a 2 jug performance, but they were better than your average fare.

The 2s were in a bit of bother before the game with Beckington even began, with Amir & new Neil "Babble" Richards setting the tone with inexcusable -30s apiece delivered on the day of the game, but somewhere between Nick Russell appearing from behind the Plough, Steve O appearing from holiday near the game & Nelly's daughter, precocious rounders maestro Lauren, the deficiencies were ultimately overcome. The cowboys won the toss & decided to bat under sweltering skies opening against a tight attack with guest all rounder StevO, victim to an early LBW shout for 4 run points, followed later by a somewhat expensive spell of 4 overs for 26 runs & a total of 34 having been awarded MoM. Dave L made 11 run points before edging a wide one behind, & followed it up with 4 economical overs for 8 runs & a week's score of 29. Ang batted 3rd & top scored with 17, bringing his combined total for the weekend up to 52, while at the other end wickets fell cheaply but amazingly enough there were no ducks of any colour. Nelly was 4th in & made 3 runs & 13 points overall, followed by Matt N, who made 2 but later added a stunning fielding display with a well deserved cyder moment catch to score 27. Alex scored 5 & later bowled 2 overs for 15, & made 8 in total for the weekend. Nick Russell followed cheaply for 2 but Wayne was next in & held on admirably until the end with 10 & a not out bonus. He also opened the bowling & took 1 for 27 off his 4 overs. James was in next & made 3 runs before getting out LBW & did not bowl himself, so ended up on 13 points, which left only DC2, who made 6, including a four & for the match scored 9 points overall as his opening spell of 2 overs was plundered for 15 runs. Lauren was not allowed to bat but apparently put some of our men's arms to shame with her girly throwing in the field. The innings total was 85 for 9 off a mere 25 overs, which was never going to be enough. Five bowlers got to bowl, DC2, Wayne, DL, StevO & Alex, but only Wayne had any success & they got the runs for the loss of one wicket in 14 overs.
