In this 2nd task you will continue working on the Outsourcing project with ABC Systems.
In this task you will learn to monitor and control a project by using the Earned Value Management System. In particular you should look through quantitative and qualitative data in each status report and analyze it being mindful of inconsistencies.
Maintain a risk register documenting risks and controls used for each. This information would be required in next task for documenting project closing.
The 'Now What?' scenario has two parts:
• Part 1
Individual work
• Part 2
Group work only (Note that you are reflecting on the entire scenario, not just part 2.)
Before you begin:
Learn about:
Schedule Monitoring and Control
By reviewing the following sections from PMBOK 4th Edition:
4.2 Project Plan Execution
10.3 Performance Reporting (Covers Earned Value Mgmt)
6.5 Schedule Control
Example for Earned Value
You have INDIVIDUAL work in Part 1:
Read all four e-mails for weeks 2 through 5 and analyze each of the attachments. Each attachment is the extensive weekly progress report required of ABC Systems. Please be sure to look at all of the information on each of the seven worksheets (see the tabs at the bottom) within the Excel Workbook.
After you have reviewed all of the material and understand the situation, access the Individual Action Plan and Communications Form at the bottom of the e-mail. Compile an individual response for each week.
Start your individual work: Save the document to your local files. It is best to re-open it within MS Word than to work out of the browser, if you want the full features of Word.
After you have completed your individual work upload your Individual Action Plan and Communications Form to your Task 3 subfolder. Note that the document name already indicates the scenario and stage you have completed.
You have only TEAM work in Part 2:
After completion of each team-member’s individual work, meet as a team.
Access the Group Thoughts and Reflections Form from the zip file.
Save the document locally, fill it out as a team. You will be provided feedback on the information that the team documents. It is expected that this work represents the “best of the best” of all of the individual work. It should include your full analysis of the situation and how you would communicate and what actions you would perform.
Work on this as a team, using a process that works for your group.
When you are ready, upload your Group Thoughts and Reflections Form to the Task 3 teamwork subfolder. Note that the document name indicates the scenario you have completed.
