note from 7/3/2011:
rainbow was talking about how the fires had a perfect hue, of red, white, yellow, green. saying that the fire maintainers said it was a perfect flame, this is a direct statement taken from alchemy, where progression goes from red to green to yellow to white. Should further note that the smiths where the early shamans and metal workers working fires to change metals. Also an interesting story told by another rainbow of seeing the fire in each person which led him to the Gathering.
note: industrial smelting began in the Armenian mountains in 1200's BCE. One of earliest astronomical observatories was in Areminia ca 5000 BCE. Some of the earliest "cities" where also in Armenia. The "Star of David" was originally an Armenian spiritual symbol, see 4 elements, it became a Jewish symbol in the 17th century CE. Seven ancient Armenian deities. Gurdjieff was Armenian. Armenia the Ohio of the MIddle East ;-)
"The smith is first and foremost a worker in iron, and his nomadic condition--for he is constantly on the move in his quest for raw metal and for orders for work--puts him in touch with differing populations. The smith becomes the principal agent in this spread of myths, rites and metallurgical mysteries." (Eliade, 1978, pg. 25)
Note Baha'i use of Alchemical Color symbolism in symbolic cosmology:

the Brown chart of the elements from above may be wrong, it does not correlate with the same charts from Shaykhi sources of which the Baha'i symbology is a reference to. See Corbin, "Temple and Contemplation"
Baha'u'llahs Haft Vadi (Seven Valleys) and Sufi precedents of same, corresponds to Seven steps of alchemical process.

[possible cultural diffusion of original teachings from Tocharian society [2000BCE] (adamic) east to China and then back westward, Anthropologists have confirmed that cultural diffusion went in an eastern direction from Central Asia, where Tocharian culture promulgated, would explain Chinese Alchemy and Mediterranean Alchemy similarities. Original teachings then become used through alchemical symbolism during Iron Age and then are integrated into several spiritual traditions from the Med to China.
