Great Salt Lake August 9th 1865
My dear Saint James and John
After a hard days toil I with a hand trembling with fatigue engage the duty in obedience to the counsels of the Lord to day to place before your observation for action on your part, the invincible and faultless track of the Son of God in his lowly estate in mortality. Mark every item that is written by Mark, Luke, Matthew, John. These are his biographers worthy your confidence. Contrast that age with this and see the similarity. Professions with an organization zealous, claiming to be the Israel of God without a broken link. All outside this Panel were Gentile or fallen and certainly they believed this. Mark the sagacious Alpha with what ease he handles their theology, stripping them of authority, grinding their systems with truth. His words sparkled with a knowledge of another existence, dropping the glory therof upon their understandings at every breath comparing their farthing candle with the brilliant trimmings of celestial light awakening the latent and inert powers that were their right to possess and exercise. Watch the effect and post yourselves with his compass and square. Keep in his footsteps, eclipsing and excelling all their studied etiquette relative to the pathway of Eternal life. His answers, as silencers were handed with precision, composed and lamblike, giving himself an interval of time to catch the electric intelligence from his guardian or Father. Instance—Ceasors penny—the woman in Adultery—Limon's feast—Peter's confession--”thou art Christ”--”Think not I accuse yu; there is one who accuseth you, even Moses in whom you trust.” Not these alone: but every word and step of the Great King whom you are come to serve, is a way mark and pillar of your feet and it is your inestimable privilege to copy, to imitate—to weld on to your spirits the same sentiment, making in the saem high order of Heavenly intellect, until the likeness is so complete, behold you stand a perfect representative, even a Holy Jesus upon the earth. I had to consider you as polished shafts I the hands of the Lord: but when upon our active ministry may I behold you glittering spears. Stop here and reflect what kind of beings you are expected to become when hunting in the Lord's preserves. “Show us the Father” said one “and then are we satisfied.” Now observe the answer! “he that hath seen the Father also.” Here is close copying. The great business dovetailes on every side so accurate that neither Philip nor philosophy with microscopic power will discover the junction after a 1800 year scrutiny. Let them study while the sweat runs down or turn maniacs or infidels at the double irond secretarion. Was it legal to become like unto the Eternal Father? Yes and highly commendable. Is it legal to become like unto the Son? Yes and beyond all praise, Obedience brings confidence—then trust, leading on to powers exhibited by him that healed by words and not by oil: that fed by element and not with fish: that withered up the fruit tree—not by cutting or withholding its supply of water, but stopping instantly its necessary life. We do not see or feel, yet, streaming on thro every department of mortal and immortality's channels in these exercises, not as poor Bro. Grow who is forgiven because of ignorance in the suggester's designs—mere crafty assertions—not as Gudmun who is yet unforgiven, not asking the boon—not as----who is equally guilty, needing sever pruning by the minsters in charge, even yourselves. These things are given for your preparation. Be wise that all may pass at the day when an examination will be required. You have had Aenos, Seth, Cainan for prompters and if your education is not completed by the assistance of these, where will you turn? Not that I deem the hint necessary; but pray you be watchful. There are many things to tell you; but all are not prepared to bear them yet, or the sequel may be as it was-----”if you eat not my flesh and drink my blood, you have no part with me.” This was a hard saying, and they the seventies, forsook him and fled, making it necessary to cover the grand principle and qualify its meaning to a lower standard as exemplified to day; and here I hand you an important key of the High and Holy Priesthood—try yourselves by it: If you love any earthly thing better than thet servant of the Lord, know assuredly your way is not pleasing in his sight. Become familiar with my sprit; then shall you meet me with joy and the counsels given as lamps in a dark place that your feet may not slip. Your question I answer thus. What is the Lord's design in the future? His desing is to bring the Fullness of the Gospel to the understanding of the heirs of salvation that they may do his will upon the earth as the Angels in Heaven do it. How is this to be done and what for? First they are to be visited by ministers prepared called huntsmen, who were to hunt them out of the holes, dens and caves of the rocks. Now it is evident they don't live in such places. The prophet had not liberty to tell it plainer: but should have said:--hunt them of the Halls, Palaces, Seminaries of learning and chambers of the great and cottages of the poor where the fishers of Enos cold not throw their net: neither were the fishers or thos who listened to the fisher's story eligible for the Grand Department now to be introduced; but served that portion assigned them. Therefore, let them alone at present. The Hunters with their entrance keys will enter these residences quiet as the rising planets, delivering to them the glad tidings from Heaven, even a fullness. Everything from Heaven is glad tidings, as they listed: for it is still thro the ear faith cometh. They are ministered to as the pattern at Weber, gathered into Holy Assemblies, 12 making sufficient for the title, instructed in the fullness and the fullness embraceth every part. After a little a doctrine is introduced of duty to build a Temple in their land. What for? When it is completed, for the Holy Angels to come and bring the mind and will of God from day to day, that they, the Saints of the Most High, may learn to do it as they, the Angels, do who know it on like terms, daily, in these Temples likewise learn celestial wisdom, escaping the judgements the fire and calamities reserved for those who then know not God nor obey the Fullness of his Gospel. The Kings of the earth to be brought in, (see Cainan's interview.) Then it will be fashionable; and outside of this work will be nothing but the rebellious of Adam's children and the Fallen ones in the white nations. With the others we have noting to do—they will be seen after by those they have listed to obey—Mahomet, Confacious, Zoroaster, Zeny and others. Then cometh the Lord Jesus Christ with his armies, as the Holy Joseph showed, and the earth moving as a Cottage. We shall be instruments used to bring to pass this mighty gathering: for it is still a gathering and Temple building dispensation, altho not to America. Adam's earth has far more choice locations then the land of Joseph, altho his father Jacob did not know it and it will be seen that the Great God can raise His Kingdom and Glory therof in every land, His ministers not becoming transgressors. Who are these the Hunters will gather? These are they who will be chosen here for leaders and Governors and Kings under their Father Adam when his earth is exalted—the rest as ministering spirits. Then the Kingdom, the greatness of the Kingdom and dominion under the whole Heaven shall be given to the Saints of the Most High and they shall possess it for ever and ever. This line of things fits like a ladies glove and needs no attempt to debate its proof. Is your question answered? If not, put it again: for I am a professor in the great work of Israel's God: and it is expected from all professors to be in possession of the keys of the science to give excellence and majesty in the practical performance of the same. If I touch not the different principle, with effect holding the keys, It is because the required attainments are not in me; but if I do, it is because I am living in obedience to the Holy commands of our God. My only desire is to further the work in righteousness and leave it in such a shape that the antagonistic powers cannot mar and make it wrong. Then shall I finish my share with joy, inheriting the reward in the Heaven of my Father. The same great blessings are for all the faithful High and Holy Priesthood—Sons and Daughters.--Some of the faithfull appear to be disappointed, thinking they are neglected. This was not so, yet happened to try their course of action. Happy is the individual who bears a crop with patience and reliance. His faith has an anchor attached, keeping his way guarded. Not it is granted to call brothers Mop White, Hugh Davis, Roberts, Swenson: and if some are, in your judgements, already polished shafts and desire to engage the Hunting campaign, call them in according to the pattern shown, and take their unanimous consent and then they are eligible and accepted and let them act as shown unto you precisely, preparing for their native nations; but if it is more convenient to tarry at Trenton for a season, let it be done as wisdom directs, helping Brothers Doves, Taylor, to open the ground, and as the way opens pass on to ther destination. If dear Bro. Mop Senr cannot pass this season over the sea, let him visit and stay at San Juan teaching the Saints and hunting more. As Deer Lodge Valley, Montana, is the neuclus, let all others begin to turn their attention that way as they tire in the wings. Bro. Wm. Davis presides there over temporalities and if a High Priest cold journey there whose desire was to tarry on the land and to serve the lord by blessing the brethren and sisters there with the good things of the Priesthood, let him send his desires in writing to me. Let Bros. Parker,, Richards, Bowen and all the faithful who are in your ministry, be comforted and with united efforts seek to keep their holy position, and they will be cared for as choice gems and firstfruits—for such there is in store exaltations and honors that may be covered to an inexperienced eye. Bro. George Thompson and Br. J. Bowman from Soda Springs have been staying with me a few days. They felt the necessity of a visit and were a blessing to me in these only days. Sunday was occupied from early dawn to dusk with private counsels and answering some thousand queries of Bro. Bowman, suggested chiefly by a long tailed Methodist Steed he had failed to dispose of; and passing thro their Temple ordinance of birthright, were washed, anointed and found to be clean before Israel's God, set apart and then ordained to their missions in England—Bro. Thompson to tarry at Deer Lodge till spring—Bro. Bowman at Soda, taking with him Bro. Alex Warrender who had travelled some two weeks before to see me, staying a few days. These were important visits, adding zeal and vigor to their faith. Through their and your faithfulness, Albion shall be comforted by her returning sons, and shall ring with the message they bring her. Let all your movements now be done in good order, without confusion or noise that the game may not get scared before your approach. I have now to contemplate you on your hunting grounds. Your first duty is—locate your families comfortably then provide the best style of apparel—then look for a teacher who can learn you the first style of etiquette and manner of introducing yourselves in the upper circles of English society. Then provide a small, neat and elegant leather case and small cruise to fit. Line the case with red velvet. Fill nearly cruise with pure___________, inserting essence of _____________. A nice case. Now you are prepared. Here follows the key of entrance:

Then officiate in that and when 12 can be brought to meet, you have an Holy Assembly and can meet in order preaching the beginning of Eternal Life unto them. Never depart from truth and a righteous walk before all and let no fault be seen. Wear the Scriptures as a ring upon your finger, gliding the diamonds there to cut your way, severing every plant out Eternal Father has not planted like unto Jesus our king. And after a little your yoke shall be easy and your duty light, leading on to a fullness of joy. Mind you hold the governing spirit and power in every circle, or you live below your privilege and this key is the secret of your power. Divulge it not, or you become powerless. This is bringing out your harness. Begin to adjust it on each other that are to work at this time trying it to your taste. If it wants any extras be quick to send on our descriptive improvements, free of the marvelous. The first missionaries received from Jesus this counsel--”When ye enter into a city first enquire who are worthy,” but it is not explained what constituted worthiness then. Now it is plain. Enquire who are sick and under bereavement. These are worthy and will be prepared for your coming and the time allotted for your preperation should have rendered you susceptable of converting every habitation that receiveth you into a heaven—a home—a retreat of joy—a resting place for contemplation—a studio where dwells the imprisoned spirit you have to train and chisel into a vessel of honor to rule in Adam's heaven. Oh my brethren dear, will you egin to drop the toys of mortality in your progress as coworkers with me, listening to no other hum, but the clear sound of the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that embraceth all intelligence and truth, never ending, never dying. And as your assemblies grow, let your preaching be the Temple building—the records to come forth—the coming of the servant of the Lord—dividing the Priesthoods—setting in order the glorious House of God. I deem it necessary to send you Canian's interviews for your own judgments to exercise thereon, comparing these with the first calls of any other authorized servant of God in any age. Let them not be common; the time is not yet come. Take a copy returning the original before you leave. But state in your next, the day you intend to post them, that I may be early at the post, not giving them a chance to open. I am 7 miles from P.O. And it is quite a walk. Enclosed is a letter to Bro. Jacob C. Adkins, San Juan, Monterey County, California. Read it and post same day and you will get his answer and see their state reporting to me. Bro. Grow is a Springfield, Massachusetts opening again. From thence perhaps to Jerusalem. When called East a gentleman turned up, and just for a companion he takes him first class by the Isthmus to Springfield, giving all the money he asks and a new suit of clothes, linen complete. This is an earnest of coming favors even to him. We have nothing to fear. Cainan is crowned legally King of all the Lord's treasures upon the earth where white delightsome spirits dwell, and the faithful of the Weber House shall be his Cabinet. Now another day is dawning, the labors therof awaiteth me , which the Lord promises to remove, after the cup is drained. My best love, my peace and blessing receive a reward for faithfullness.
Affectionately Yours,
Cainan
