Great Salt Lake August 21, 1865
My Dear Bro. Davis [Davies],
I am in debt with correspondence, and how to avoid this is not so clear; but when there is solidity and strength in any building, the architect feels at rest. Thus it is with my reliance upon your stability while the more remote corners of the structure need of late, the entire attention of what should be shared by all; and in a day to come you will more fully realize this matter, when all your energies are kept at full stretch a match for the various assaults of employees of the enemy. As the heavy heads and self-exalters keep dropping from the Heavenly Car, the velocity increases, and the flaming heralds of the Fulness are being trimmed and fitted to enter the hunting grounds of Israel's God, with the keys by which they bring a fulness of knowledge unto those whom the Lord has reserved unto this time; for those who will be hunted out of the halls, palaces, seminaries of learning, chambers of the great and cottages of the poor, will be those who shall do the Father's will upon the earth, as the angels do who are in his presence in Heaven. By what means of order can this oft repeated petition be accomplished, that issued from the lips of our king; for no people has yet come up to this desirable standard; therefore, have all been wanderers and pilgrims where like unto Abraham seeing a country out of sight, or seeking what they never found nor possessed. Why was this unfathomable prize presented unto them if the Lord designed to hold it beyond their distance? Because they should be equal with us in striving to obtain what is intended for us to possess, that we may not glory over them. In that, they were willing to work by faith, following after those things discerned by the spirit, not always joyous, unless we gain power to push away the covering veil: then our spirit understandeth its relation to all things, discovering its engagement to unite its forces with the eternal powers that govern the universe, that we may be prepared to take part in the great creative department of the God', for all we now behold or hear had to be brought from element into the existence it now exhibits, showing all duration is filled with energetic impulses, the propellers of which move up at distant intervals, first securing other prefect designers to fill the habitarium they ascend from. The instruments, powers, keys, are immoveable fixtures belonging the circle, and are stationary, never decaying, The attainments request to lift of these exalted thrones of knowledge are gained through the avenues of truth, light, revelation, embodied in the Fulness of the Gospel, infolding itself at Weber unto you; but unto me upon the Holy Mountain; and as we lay aside our follies and wash away the nothingness that has been assiduously presented to our infantine conceptions, the gates beneath the archway open by degrees, until our fidelity increases confidence in the porters therof who hold the precious gaze waiting our worthiness—this ascertained, our relationship is further sealed and endorsed, wide open swings the eternal portal and no longer secrets are locked up. Celestial cheffionairies are kept ironbound from the friends and co-workers of Israel's faithful God—their alliance is cemented—the gates to this once open, no power shutteth; but these gates once shut against a rebel, no power openeth. Shall the will of the Father be done implicitly upon the earth in this generation? Yes—when the first Temple is completed; for in that comes the open ministrations of Holy Angels from His presence, bringing his mandates, Laws, Government, the different departments prepared by freewill offerings of the righteous heirs of salvation who, by faithfulness, ascent to be rulers, governors, kings, administrators upon this earth when she enters the celestial circle with Adam, their Father and God, at the head, and Abel, the heir and first begotten Son. In these Temples will be first the grand reception room for the entertainment of celestial visitors—the creation room, the most beautiful of all showing all the great designer's handiwork—the throne of power and authority,-- the mercy seat where water is no longer available for transgression—the Holy Hall, called Holiest of all where justice, judgement, and mercy will be administered according to Eternal Law—the-----but more descriptive beauties at another season. Dear William, be prepared to receive Bro. S. Ghul and Sorenson whom I expect to winter with you on their way to Scandinavia, likewise Bro. Thompson on his way to England. These brethren have been with me and bear from under my hands their appointments, and are the hunters of the Lord holding the keys of that office. I wish them all good success. They have been washed, anointed and pronounced clean before the Lord. Listen to their teachings in advance, doing unto them as unto me. Let them see this letter. I invite them to write their journeyings and prospects. Let your Priesthood have their regular meetings and be an example of goodness to all, that their faith may be great in your government over temporalities. Let Bro. Thomas preside in his priesthood, meeting in order that all may advance toward perfection the ready at the Lord's call. Send on to Bro. Sven. O. Hagg my invitation to prepare to journey in the spring with Bros. Ghul and Sorenson, and he shall be highly gifted with the everlasting gospel's power, if faithful. One and all strive to excel in holiness and knowledge. Take especial care of the sisters and little ones this winter. Hannah and Margarett were with me a few days ago, all well. Bro. D. James' letter came too late. He has my best wishes. Let him listen to the heralds coming on. I hope Bros. Beck and Larson are anxious to help in all your duties;--if otherwise, report. You may expect an immigration next summer from Nev. And Cal. Are you ready to receive them? I will expect to hear from Deer Lodge at an early day. There the nuclies must be established; for not all are to tarry in the lands we find them. My best love to all the faithful—I am very faithfully yours--
