Communicating and Following-up with Service Providers
Facilitating communication between parent/caregivers and/or foster care parents and providers will help to ensure quality of care. Parent/caregivers often have concerns or challenges when entering complex systems. They often are unaware of their options and how to work with the provider to work towards goals. Supporting parent/caregivers in communicating their concerns to providers will help increase independence and advocacy for their child.
When beginning a new collaborative relationship or a attempting to repair a damaged one, it is important to start from a place of understanding curiosity. By working to create positive relationships with other providers, you are in turn modeling that skill for parents and the children you work with.
