Module 3, Handout 1: Regulation and Stress in Infants/Toddlers
This chart organizes indicators of stress and regulation in young infants and toddlers.
- The left column shows behaviors that indicate an infant is able to regulate his/her sensory intake and is moving toward increased organization of his/her body.
- The right column, in contrast, lists the physical and behavioral indicators that might demonstrate the infant is experiencing stress. By “stress”, we mean that the infant is uncomfortable, his/her body is experiencing sensations or signals that keep him or her in an uncomfortable or stressful state.
