Module 1 Goals
Module 1 introduces the science of early development and the complex interplay of nature and nurture in shaping children’s course of development. This module provides a brief description of the cognitive, social, and emotional processes underlying early childhood development and typical and atypical courses of development. It also lays out the important role relationships play in shaping children's growth and well-being.
Learning Objectives
After completing Module 1, CASAs will be able to:
Describe how early brain development establishes the foundation for all growth and development.
Identify the characteristics of supportive care giving practices and their impact on development in children, birth through five years.
Identify the key developmental milestones for typical development in children birth through 5 years, including elements of social and emotional wellness in infants and young children.
Explain the influence of individual differences and temperaments on social and emotional development in young children.
Identify characteristics of atypical development and early signs of developmental delays or disabilities in children birth through five years.
