Caramel Apples

From the kitchen of: Samoan Cookbook

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 1/2 C brown sugar
  • 1/2 C light corn syrup
  • 1/4 C butter or margarine
  • 7 oz. (1/2 can) sweetened condensed milk
  • 6 apples
  • 6 Popsicle sticks or equivalent
  • crispy rice cereal, granola, or nuts for decorating.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. In a large saucepan, combine brown sugar and corn syrup.
  2. Bring to a boil.
  3. Add butter and let melt
  4. Add sweetened condensed milk and bring back to a boil.
  5. Cook to firm ball stage (245o F)
  6. Insert wooden sticks near the stem of each apple.
  7. Dip apples in caramel and then in cereal, granola, or nuts.
  8. Stand on a buttered cookie sheet to set up.
