Receipts - Civil Code 1499

If a tenant requests a written receipt for payment, or other property delivered - such as returning keys at move out, the landlord is required to give a written receipt.

Civil Code 1499. A debtor has a right to require from his creditor a written receipt for any property delivered in performance of his obligation.
