I led the A ride to Hertford on Tuesday. The temperature was forecast to stay below freezing until at least mid day. The main roads were clear, but on the way down to Stapleford water had run across the road in several places and frozen. I decided to change the route and stayed on main roads the rest of the way. It got me thinking about "rules" for icy weather. Of course it is the responsibility of the Ride leader to check the weather forecast and be prepared to change the route or cancel the ride. However, we all need to be vigilant and prepared to speak up if we have concerns about the route. Comments welcome.
