Building Information

Access to the building

You will need an active Ucard to swipe into the building beyond the reception area. During the working week, the main outer door is open access between 9am and 5pm and can be opened with swipe cards of Philosophy staff and postgraduates 8-9am and 5-6pm.

Weekdays 6pm-8am and weekends (Friday 6pm-Monday 8am) count as 'Out-of-Hours' and you should complete the required training to access the building during these times. Once this training is complete, you need to see Rebecca to activate out-of-hours access on your Ucard and to ensure you have the alarm code. When working out of hours, it is especially important to use the in/out board at the entrance to indicate that you are in the building - please ensure you are familiar with the appropriate security procedures

Wellbeing spaces

We are fortunate to have a lovely courtyard area to the rear of the building that is available to all staff and students to use. If you never need a screen break, the courtyard is a great place to unwind and relax. There are bistro tables and chairs, outdoor games that you can borrow and some lovely planters to enjoy.

Coffee machine

There is a Delonghi Magnifica coffee machine in the small kitchen (C07) available for staff use. The user manual is next to the machine, and there is a helpful guidance video available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A43dAyPdYOs.

Finding your way around the building

The Philosophy building is made up from several old houses knocked into one (that's why the layout can be a little confusing). Please refer to the floorplans to identify where the safety equipment is housed.

The building is accessible to wheelchair users and those with limited mobility via a ramps at the main entrance at 45 as well as 55 Victoria Street

The following rooms on the ground floor are accessible;

Fun fact!

The department even has a shower room; handy for anyone energetic enough to run or cycle to work.
