NCEA Level 3 Food & Nutrition

Aim:

The aim is for students to enhance their existing understanding of the factors that influence the well-being of communities and of the actions people take to enhance and sustain those environments. Through the process of investigating, challenging and designing nutritional options, the students develop their creativity and experience a sense of accomplishment. At the same time, they develop personal and interpersonal understandings and skills that contribute to well-being.

Course Content:

In the context of food and nutrition, students evaluate current issues and theories of nutrition, identify and reflect on factors that influence people’s choices and behaviours, and use this knowledge to make informed decisions.

Assessment:

A variety of assessment tasks are set over the year, these will include written work that will involve a small amount practical cooking.

Qualification gained

Full course completion — 21 credits in NCEA Level 3 Technology and Home Economics (Gaining all 3 Technology standards for 15 credits will mean UE in Technology
