NCEA Level 1 Physical Education

Aims

To develop in students an awareness of their own physical ability, introducing them to new activities and to some of the scientific knowledge associated with exercise and physical activity.

Course Content

  • Participate in a wide range of physical activities, individual, team and recreational
  • Complete a Sports Education module
  • Theory covering aspects of body structure and function in relation to physical activity
  • Outdoor Education module – culminating in a Rail Trail expedition, with a safety focus
  • Major skills development programme concentrating on a specific sport
  • Issues in sport, specifically concerning the influence of the media today

Assessment

All assignments are internally assessed

Qualification gained

Full course completion — 24 Achievement Standard credits in NCEA Physical Education Level 1, selected from the achievement standards and one unit standard available
