NCEA Level 1 Visual Art
Aims
To develop skills in all forms of visual communication.
Course Content
Emphasis is placed on developing Art skills and knowledge that will link with the three subjects offered in NCEA Visual Art Level 2, Painting, Photography, or Art History.
New Zealand and international art practice will be studied to support the development of individual ideas for practical work. Drawing, painting, photography, photo-shop and mixed media will be used throughout the course.
Assessment
There are a variety of assessment tasks and school examinations. Externally assessed topics are moderated nationally at the end of the year. Internal assessment is collated and kept in a workbook. External assessment is in the form of two boards of work produced in the classroom and sent away for external moderation.
Qualification gained
Full course completion — 22 credits in NCEA Visual Arts Level 1
Entry Requirements
Year 10 Art recommended
NCEA Level 2 Painting is a pre-requisite for the NCEA Level 3 Painting. Entry without this is on a case by case basis.
