NCEA Level 1 Mathematics

Aim

This course is intended for students who have consistently worked at basic level at least in Year 10. Students taking this course should be confident of achieving the 10 required credits for Numeracy from the listed standards. This course leads into all three Level 2 Mathematics Courses.

Course content

  • Solving problems involving number skills in context
  • Investigating multivariate data sets using statistical methods
  • Exploring relationships between tables, equations and graphs
  • Applying algebraic procedures
  • Solving problems involving probability methods
  • Statistical analysis of bivariate, multivariate, and time series data

Assessment

There are a variety of assessment tasks and school examinations. Externally assessed topics are examined nationally at the end of the year.

Qualification gained

Full course completion - 20 credits in NCEA Level 1 Mathematics

A minimum of 10 credits is required to meet the numeracy requirements for NCEA Level 1 and University Entrance.
