NCEA Level 2 Outdoor Education

A semester based course for Year 12 - Semester 1, Term 1 and 2. Semester 2, Term 3 and 4.

Aims

  • To develop a background knowledge and understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of outdoor education, sustainability education and environmental education
  • To involve students in a wide range of Outdoor Experiences. Predominately in our local environment
  • To provide opportunities for personal, leadership and social development by interacting with others in challenging activities

Course Content

  • Leadership development
  • Safety and Risk Management
  • Outdoor skill based activities: Including Mountain biking, tramping, rock climbing and kayaking
  • Environmental Education
  • Assessment – all assessments are internal and practical in nature

Qualification gained

A maximum of 8 credits selected from a combination of Level 2 Achievement Standards and Unit Standards listed above

Entry requirements

Students must display a genuine interest/passion for the Outdoors, what it can offer them and give back to it. All students will need to have access to a Mountain Bike and appropriate Outdoor Clothing. A comprehensive list can be provided from the school Physical Education Department

Course contribution

First Semester - to cover specialist instruction, transport and accommodation costs $345.00

Expedition Abel Tasman National Park (seven-day trip, including travel) $540.00 (numbers dependent) plus $50.00 for food (first semester only) - Please note we are currently reviewing our expeditions offered, this maybe subject to change

Second Semester - to cover specialist instruction, transport and accommodation costs $200.00

Extras – Food on overnight trips will be supplied by participating students
