Sharing One Skin:

In the first article I got more of a personal read from it. The story went in depth about the author and what she was taught growing up. She reflects on how we as human beings are all one with the earth pretty much breaking down the meaning of us, for us. Reading this really opened up a different mindset and made me think more about how not all cultures are so different.

My interpretation of the article is simple. It's about culture and us as people. The author goes in depth about our skin being one with the earth and so forth. It gives an insight of cultures from the two tribes, the land and water tribes. Not only this but about human beings all being connected to the earth and each other more than we know. Making everyone of us not so different from each other.

Native American Identity:

This article focuses pretty much on white privilege. The author talks about their families' experiences with dealing with the issue. Not exactly personally but they talk about how they see it affect not only them but everyone around them. He explains white privilege in different ways such as how it changed everything in general and even how some whites may use it to their extent. Lastly it goes over how native people in the US don't really feel as they "fit in" or how they realize how different it is than what they may have grown up with.

What I got from this was a different perspective but the same feelings. I'd say I agree with pretty much everything the author talks about. Not only that but feeling it myself as well, seeing how it almost changes you or people you know in both good and bad ways. Also feeling like us as native people don't fall in the same category" as some white people may see themselves in.

Summarizing it is pretty much the whole article going over how us as Natives were simply just forgotten as things began changing drastically.

Reclaiming my Femininity:

The first article I selected is called "Reclaiming My Femininity." I thought this was a good short article because the author pretty much talks about exactly what I want to go over. How society sees her as a woman, and how she feels she has to go about herself especially in public and more specifically in front of men. As the story progresses she talks about how in college she finds the perfect group where she can express herself and not feel judged. She also talks about how it empowered her more to talk on how women are treated in society. And toward the end she explains countries run by women showed to deal with this pandemic were now in a much neater way and these countries have some of the lowest numbers with the covid numbers.

Connecting this to me, I would just say I relate in a way to what she sees, how women are conflicted on whether or not they should be themselves. Not so much physically, but on social media, you will see numerous girls post about how they feel they are obligated to something or even how they feel in public, period. The problem is how women are treated not only in native communities but everywhere. I have a few girls close to me who have said themselves they keep their opinion to themselves because they feel it doesn't mean anything, and even some who say they feel uncomfortable speaking what they feel. Another thing is the fact that I feel more girls should be like this author, finding themselves and being able to express themselves and what they think is right. Also before leaving this story I would like to include how the countries run by women showed much better progress with opening than those run by men.

Feisty Foremothers:

This second short article "Feisty foremothers." simply talk about where the women's rights movement started, and how it gave women all around the world a big step to their freedom, having the right to vote. It goes over how these ladies would protest and how they simply never gave up for what they believed was right. It talks about how in 1848 the movement sparked off in NY and really began to grow from there and make progress.

Relating this to my topic is simple, it goes over one of the biggest leaps women took in gaining their equality in the states and for women all around. Also how it played such a big role to today, how women have been almost elected president. Though women have come a long way they still have yet to achieve in my opinion. I believe as they get more access to things, and they have more of a voice they will lead the people and possibly even the world to much better things.

Defining Moments for Women in 2020:

This article breaks down how special 2020 was for women specifically. Not only here in the US but globally. It went over how Kamala Harris broke so many barriers with becoming the first woman to be elected VP of the US, how countries run by women showed better numbers with having less cases and deaths during this pandemic, and also how new laws were passed on protecting women from domestic violence. All in all this article gave a really good insight on how women could make such a positive impact on so much more if they were given a chance to speak up. Especially in Native Communities, maybe not so much ¨messing” with the cultural side of it, but just letting them speak up more with making decisions about the pueblo and even for the people.

This article gave more of an insight on what women could do for everyone. Also how they pretty much can think better than men, as these numbers show. In my opinion, also what I got from my first interviewee, women tend to think in a more organized manner, as men really don't follow an agenda, maybe some, but not all. My point being this article specifically can help me a lot in my opinion, backing up with what positive things women have done not only recently but over the years. Also with the variety of categories in which they helped in, in the science field, in the medical field and of course about how women are now holding positions so high they can make the difference now.

Equality in Washington:

The article focuses on the state of Washington focusing on equaling womes rights as well as women and children sex trafficking in the state. It focuses on these matters and pretty much putting the word out there as well as making awareness to help stop this. It goes over how Washington went about its ways making things right for both men and women in their state, during the time of women being harassed by their own president, Washington really took a big step in my opinion by going through with all this.

I chose this article mainly because of what the state of Washington did with equaling womes rights but also because of the sex trafficking part. Not only is this a big situation around the world but it is in the US and not really anyone talks about it. It has been spoken about over the years but is never really taken seriously, women and children are targets of this and I believe that shouldn't be the case. It should be spoken about more, to help all the women in need of help. Not only was it spoken about in this, but also another article I came across that came out in 2018 was going over how women are targeted 15x more during the pandemic where they don't really get much help.

¨Are female leaders more successful at managing the coronavirus crisis?¨

The first article I came across was an article from a site called The Guardian, titled, ¨Are female leaders more successful at managing the coronavirus crisis?¨ It focused a lot on the topic of females being more successful than males with managing this pandemic. Yes, other countries run by men have also been doing well, very few countries run by women have been doing bad. The article ranged around different countries like New Zealand, Denmark, Taiwan, and Germany. Not only have they shown outstanding numbers, but they have really shown Women are capable of more than a lot of people think. If given the chance they can do extraordinary things and as exemplified in the article, they can really make the right decisions when it comes to things like this.

I would include this article for many reasons. Not only does it focus on women making big decisions, but it also represents these women as leaders for their people. With Germany holding the highest number of deaths at just 5,000 at the time the article was released, it showed how much better these countries were doing while other countries like us for example, were struggling and having over 1,000,000 deaths. Also note that these countries took extra precautions as early as March of 2020 and were holding mandatory lockdowns for up to two weeks. A number of these countries now do not really consider lockdowns to be necessary anymore.

Indigenous Women Rising

The second article I found simply focused on Representative Debra Haaland. The short article gave a lot of feedback about her and where she came from. I see this as a big step for Native Women especially because she became the first woman in her pueblo to be elected Chairwomen. From there it only went up, she went on to help the Laguna Development Corporation to create and make more earth-friendly policies, and after this she went on to be the first Native American woman to be elected to lead a state party. She used this to reach out to many communities who were not paid enough attention to and even traveled to Standing Rock to stand with the community to protect the land.

I chose this article because it is perfect for my topic, it represents a successful Native woman and showed the various ways she helped not only her community but the communities around her as well. This article very much related to my topic being that she had the same background as many of these Native women who could potentially be more than they think. She started off moving around a lot, as well as paying off loans, having to use things very common in native communities such as an EBT card, she started where most of us are and is now helping make big decisions at places like the country's capital.
