Native American Identity
The story I just read was about Native American Identity. It talks about the different things that a Native American could be thinking about or growing through. Native Americans struggle to maintain their own identity pressures of adapting to living in a white-dominated society. Young people chose not to speak their own language. We may not be white because we tend to do significant things like them. In the past few years, white people have been getting a lot of privileges.
Native Americans have to be enrolled into a tribe. Some Native Americans come from multiple tribes if someone is in a situation like their parents decide what tribe to enroll them in. Native American cultural changes have changed and will continue to change over the years. Back in 1803 Native Americans roomed freely and occupied their respective territories. By 1903 they were all confined to reservations. Many Native Americans feel that they should pay more attention to their tribal teachings.

Sharing one Skin: The Okanagan Community
In “Sharing One Skin” she talks about where she comes from. Her mother is from Kettle Falls and her Father is from Okanagan Valley. She participates in both communities. She’s very tied to her religion, mother nature, and community. Okanagan's original identity is about dreams and land together. And the main identity is physical self, emotional self, thinking-intellectual self, and spiritual self. She talks about the importance of family and community. Without a connection with your community, you will be a very confused person in your community.

¨Biden has promised to protect ´dreamers´
Joe Biden Promised to instantly reinstate the federal program that protects undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S when they were children, A group called ¨dreamers.¨ DACA was created back in 2012 when Barack Obama was still president. He created it himself with no debate. People who passed their background check pursued their studies and paid fees to have work permits and stay in the U.S. More than 640,000 immigrants enrolled in the program. Donald Trump tried stopping the program because he was upset that Obama created the program himself, but the courts didn't let him. Biden promised to protect them from deportation and to send a bill to congress. Most recipients came in as children, most of them are now in their 20´s and they have a very much more successful life than these Americans that are in their 20´s. They declare that DACA is unlawful. The Supreme court orders the department of homeland security who also runs the program, to decide what to do with DACA. A federal judge in New York said the DACA move may not have been legitimate because DHS was unlawful. Hanen said, congress not the executive and judicial branches ¨should consider saving the program.¨

Healing the US Mexico border divide calls for ingenuity and some chutzpah
¨Healing the US-Mexico border divide calls for ingenuity and some chutzpah¨ was the article I read by Shannon Collins. A pink seesaw was put through the border, kids, and border patrols are playing together. 8 months later it was awarded “The Beazley Design Of The Year Award.” It was recognized by London’s design museum so the museum rewarded them in 2020. The improvements were that it brought human connection between the border patrol and the people of juarez especially the kids. It bought playfulness, peppered with laughter of adults and children, and taking turns bobbing up and down. President Biden and President Lopez are working together to end the harsh policies that Trump administrated.

Mexican athletes make history with 136 medals at Pan American Games
Mexican athletes attended the Pan American Games in Lima. They’ve finished third on the medal tally. It was one of their best performances at a regional sporting event. They got a total of 37 golds, 36 silvers, and 63 bronzes. They were all won by the athletes that competed in 31 different sports. During the 16 day event there not a day that they would not win a gold medal. The gold medal came from 14 different sports. The United States came in first for the medal tally following by Brazil and then Mexico with third place.

Shootings lead to sweep of gang members.
Police were investigating a shooting and gang activity. Eight men were arrested on Jan.28 Six from Camarillo and two lived in Thousand Oaks. The men were members of the same Camarillo street gang. A detective remembered two recent gang-related Camarillo shootings. The first one occurred back in November, nobody was injured according to police. On Dec. 27 a shooting occurred near Lomita st and N.Glenn drive, two men were injured and treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect’s shooters were arrested on Jan 8 Jose Rivera, 27, and Juan Cervantes,22, were charged criminal street gang and street terrorism. Another shooting occurred on Jan 7, a man was killed at Lamplighter's mobile home park, believed to be gang-related. Police did warrant search in the past few months that could be gang-related or lead to any investigation of the shooting. The searches lead to a lot of arrests, including a high-powerful rifle and a handgun that was reported stolen back in 2012. They arrested a lot of men that were a part of a gang. Detective Dyer hopes that the arrest will help decrease violence and help keep the city safe.
