Native American Identities: Perry Horse

In “Native American Identities'', we are told some facts about what Perry G. Horse’s grandmother said in her time of being alive. One being, that Natives are slowly turning into white people, this includes language, dances, ways of life, government, etc. We were also told how we are either given or agreeing to an identity such as Native Americans or indigenous people. White privilege is also a situation because it gives them superiority over any other races and peoples. All in all, as the youth grow into more generations, they are slowly losing our indian ways of life.

This is relevant to the ways of life currently. I see that many kids are getting bored with Native ways and want to go the white way. I see this is because the elderly or the ones teaching the language have no interest in teaching or expect the kids to already know the language. This is what happened with me and now I have no interest in learning the language anymore. It would be nice to know, but the people who want me to learn just don't show they want to teach. I also see how the Native government also is turning into the white way as they have the power to de-native people. I don’t know that this was even possible.

Sharing One's Skin: The Okanagan Community ; Jeanette Armstrong

In “Sharing One’s Skin”, this article is based on the Okanagan community and what they’ve believed in to be a community. This article talks about life, country, Identity, community, etc. of the Okanagan community and how it all is compared with the Spiritual self, the physical self, the emotional self, and the thinking-intellectual self. Majority of this includes the ways of the Okanagan and how they connect with the earth and the people to have a healthy life and staying respectful.

I believe this compares to almost all Native Americans, We see that the ones who go to jail, get hurt, become jealous un-intentionally, or even don’t care about the earth or native people are all adapting to another way of ife. It is hard to believe that there are bad Indigenous peoples around us and we can’t do anything about it because we value the person over the spirit. I see the people hurt because everyone wants things for themselves, everyone wants to get more than they already have, everyone wants to be known. This is what the older generation is teaching the youth, and sadly are learning from it. I don’t see any way to reverse this because even with working together to all appreciate what we have, there will be plenty who won’t help at all.

Technology Addiction

Technology Addiction is a main issue that we deal with today. Such the article stating that more and more people are getting addicted to not the technology itself, but what is on them. The article states “With the rapid pace at which technology is growing and changing, media outlets, health organizations, and research scholars alike are discussing the potential for individuals to become addicted to technology.” It is not clear how people get addicted but is said to be 95% of all users especially for social media and e-sports (Researched by PEW). Esports is basically a job for gamers who are more than professional in a certain game and is almost every person’s dream which is a reason for addiction.

As a person who suffers from internet addiction, I know what the article means when people are addicted because of the amount of time they spent in it. As said by my SHP teacher and scientific researcher, people are to keep what they spent time and money on the most. I see this as a situation that comes with my topic, addiction to their games takes away the ability to see the real world. I plan to use this as an opportunity to use that addiction and slowly turn it into a healthy lifestyle where the Native Youth spend more time doing the activity rather being on technology.

Smartphone Safety and Privacy

Another Issue that came up has to deal with distractions while using technology. In the article, CBS news states “the rate of serious crimes involving smartphones is rising.” CBS news says that technology distractions is a top cause of issues plated with technology today. All this includes distracted driving and walking along with overuse of injuries. An interesting fact is that when a teen is taken away from his smartphone/cellphone their heartbeats drop significantly and proved that students don’t know how to be entertained without them.

I see this in my SHP as a major issue. Distractions whilst doing an activity because of this can become an issue, including playing a game while driving, walking, and biking. There are a few solutions to this and it could be portrayed by the technology itself which isn’t as big of an issue but is unreliable. I also see this as an opportunity to try and express a feeling of only paying attention to fitness when on technology and having a certain time to play games. This not only will create a stronger mind, but will increase organization skills in the Native Youth of my community.

Electronics and Electronic Engineering

Electricity was proof that atoms were made of smaller particles known as positive and negative charges. As we see it today, electricity is moved in some sort of object in some sort of purposeful way in order to achieve something anywhere from entertainment to self-driving cars. Since the development of the transistor in 1947 and the circuit in 1970, electronic technology has become digital, concurrent with the ability to assemble millions of transistor structures on the surface of a single silicon chip. In other words, we are able to make telephones, tvs, radios, etc. all with a singular electricity transfer.

Since the creation of the transistor, we are able to play pokemon go, use google meets, contact each other, and make life ten times easier than it was back then. Lately, we’ve been using technology for entertainment such as playing video games, social media, cyber bullying, and even watching tv. What if we are able to use that technology in the way the inventor of the transistor insisted. What if we had a use for these technologies, and that compared to my topic is exactly what my goal is. I am going to try and make people use technology for fitness and healthy lifestyles. Imagine coming home to your child playing just dance and enjoying life as you watch everyone be happy and finally coming together to do something for not much but a Wii and a game?

Interpersonal Skills and Technology

The ability to communicate with people without actually being in their presence is amazing and has many positive sides to it. As stated in the article, “It is important however to realize how speaking to someone face-to-face versus via technology requires a different interpersonal skill set”. Without being able to see the other person, read their body language, or hear their tone of voice the words used to figure out a message whether by email, text or social media are very important. Understanding the basic ideas that are understandable for technology-based communication and actively building these skills has great value in today's technology dominant society.

Once again, the article states that the ability to communicate using today's technology is very important and very useful. The ability to communicate with different people through many different systems help me make my topic ten times easier as well. Since we are able to use technology for communication, why not use it to communicate for fitness and personal skills? Not only those, but healthy lifestyles, networking, and meeting new friends. This has helped me before communicating to get a job, to get an application for schools, and even to play healthy games.

Technology Shapes Cultures

In “Technology Shapes Cultures” by Caroline Epstein, technology is proved to be very important from the help of inventing vaccines to getting things from point A to B as quickly as possible. According to the article, the French vs American food culture significantly differentiated based on the use of modern technology. For example, The French Culture expects social life and a slow consumption of food rather than the American way of fast food and quick meals. This is all based on the use of technology such as America having quick transportation for quick food and freezer storage to get things ready almost immediately and the French limiting this for the greater good of healthy lifestyles. Some may ask “But both have the same technology, why don’t they use it the same way?”. This is all because of the culture of technology, The French do not like that this technology changes it by disturbing the peace within each establishment. They’d have it the way where food is for the soul not for the stomach. Unlike The american way, they see food as a privilege and not a common item.

As the previous article mentions, the French use the food for the soul and not the stomach. To be honest I wish it was the same way with American establishments. Before this pandemic in 2020, we were able to socialize and see other people, this is a way of life. Not only this but we were able to dine in and take our time, eat with friends, have a good time. This used to be one of the greatest feelings one would have and I see why this is part of the French culture shared with the world. I can also see why they have some of the best food in the world as well. Compared to where I come from, our culture has its own variety of food we see as special. Some foods are quite rare and especially delicious pertaining to our form of technology is what creates those foods. For example we use grinders, stones, spoons to make tortillas, cornmeal, our own home-made stews. But explicitly this can be fixed in personal communities but unfortunately not worldwide. It is as simple as keeping diets even and limiting technology to only have for important things and fitness. Compiling all these up there is only one obstacle, not everyone agrees with the same thing everyone else does.

Fitness Tech is Going Global - With High Momentum in Asia

In “Fitness Tech is Going Global - With High Momentum in Asia”, technology is implemented into the lives of India and China by order of their governments. This is a huge upgrade to what the world sees as a technology and fitness collaboration. In the article, “Asia in particular has seen an emergence of fitness tech startups”, meaning that there are new technology apps that allow people to keep track of their fitness and health by reminding them of their nutrition and everyday fitness.

In all honesty this is the best news I’ve ever seen pertaining to my SHP project! I see that people around the world are making progress on trying to turn technology addiction into fitness and healthy lifestyles. The article has also provided a map of the world and companies that create apps, equipment, shops, etc. for all and everything needed to succeed in such actions. There are many related issues on the course of technology addiction, all the way to staying unhealthy because technology is a burden to deal with. In all honesty I wish we had plenty of things here to do in America which falls behind in fitness and technology control. There are also many obstacles such as getting everyone to try to get involved by sort of leaving their own culture but to add a new lifestyle to their own worlds. Some people are also not up to the task in trying to solve their own fitness and tech addiction issues as well.
